What is, and why have a virtual consult?
A virtual consult is a consult that occurs via video conference email and web saving you the time, effort and money involved with a physical visit.
How to setup a virtual consult with me?
Email me with a request for a consult-portermcroberts@gmail.com. Fill out the online form. and email or fax the initial visitation form (please put ATTN: Virtual Consult). Acquire the actual discs/CDs or images of your anatomy/spine and mail them to me, “Attention to W. Porter McRoberts MD- Virtual Consult.” Obtain copies of relevant testing: i.e. lab work, EMG, nerve conduction studies. We will Email correspond with me for a convenient time to have a video conference after I have received and reviewed the files and documents. I review the data surrounding your case. We have a video conference. and online review. I send you a written consult note as the summary of our visit.

I routinely see sick, injured and scared patients who simply have no idea of their options. Often patients don’t know that they don’t have to live in pain, that some treatment exists which can turn their life around. It is such a blessed gift to be able to take people out of pain. I can’t help everybody, but I have been honored by tens of thousands of patients who trusted their lives to me.
What is gained by Virtual Consult?
From the privacy of your home, be it Paris, Kuala Lampur, New York, Miami or just down the road in Palm Beach you can have a consult. It saves you the time, effort and money associated with an office visit. 70% of diagnoses can be made via history and about the remaining 20% with review of documentation like MRIs EMGs and imaging. Lastly, it usually takes about 6-8 weeks to see me, with virtual consult you go to the front of the line.
What is lost in Virtual Consult?
I wouldn’t do this if I didn’t have to. I love the freedom to sit and talk to a patient, and then especially to examine the patient. Much can be learned from specific exams. The checking of reflexes, range of motion, tender points. This we do loose, we can do a lot in the video portion, but some will be lost. Often if or when we meet for a procedure we can fill in those remaining question marks.
What is the cost of the Virtual Consult?
It depends on the complexity of your case and the time required to work through the information such as imaging and past history as well as the face to face video time and time needed to type and prepare the summary note. Please email me for a quote. I do not take insurance or medicare, but will need to know your insurance carrier.
Can I get medicines through the Virtual Consult visit?
No, I am afraid not. I may make recommendations for your primary, or pain doctor however.
What if I need a procedure or surgery Virtual Consult ?
I am more than happy to see and do your procedures, however, I know most all excellent pain doctors in the US, and many in England, Europe and the world and can get you pointed in the right direction with them.
How much do procedures and surgeries cost after Virtual Consult?
I have specific rates for certain procedures.
